Ollie Schroeder was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 4, 1935. Schroeder was involved in the growth and management of baseball within Winnipeg and the province for over four decades. Her main area of contribution was in the Red River valley Baseball League (RRVBL) in Northeast Winnipeg. Her commitment to this league was resolute. She held many different positions within the RRVBL, including president, treasurer, registrar, convenor, umpire assigner, scheduler, and coach coordinator. Her work for the RRVBL allowed the league to be accepted into Baseball Canada’s Reaching Baseball Ideals program. The program aimed to protect young athletes from injuries and provide more children an opportunity to play the sport. Schroeder was also influential in the formation of the Winnipeg Minor Baseball Association. She was involved in many provincial and regional championship events. Schroeder was inducted into the Baseball Manitoba Honour Society in 1996. In 2006, she was named Baseball Canada Volunteer of the Year. Her commitment to the sport provided the opportunity for many children and communities to become involved who otherwise may not have had the chance.
