Don Schmall

  • BIRTHPLACE Neepawa, MB

  • BORN September 24, 1959

  • INDUCTED 2017

Don Schmall was born in Neepawa, Manitoba on September 24, 1959. Schmall pitched 18 years in the Manitoba Senior Baseball League (MSBL) for the Neepawa Cubs (1977-81) and the Neepawa Farmers (1982-94). This was during a time when many teams relied on talented pitchers. At the time of his induction into the Hall of Fame, he held the Neepawa Farmers’ all-time record for innings pitched (609), wins (39), and strikeouts (274). As the Neepawa Farmers dispended with the MSBL in 2015, it is unlikely these records will be broken in the near future. Schmall pitched a no-hitter against the Dauphin Redbirds on June 28, 1991, and he was named MSBL playoff MVP that season. He was also the Farmers’ regular season MVP in both 1984 and 1992. Schmall later pitched with the Manitoba All-Stars at several Western Canadian and National Championships. He helped Manitoba collect two gold, two silver, and one bronze medal during the 1980s. Off the field, he served as secretary-treasurer of Baseball Manitoba for five years, and he was very active in coaching minor fastball and serving as a Neepawa Minor Baseball Association executive.
