Gordon Fines

Gordon Fines was born in Balmoral, Manitoba on March 11, 1950. Fines was a founding member of the minor baseball executive committee which restarted minor baseball in Stonewall in 1985. From 1987-92, he was president of Stonewall Minor Baseball and saw participation increase from 196 to 328 players during that time. He was also a key organizer in the 1999 Pan-American Games and many other provincial and western Canadian championships. At Quarry Park in Stonewall, Fines was a major driving force in fund raising, the acquisition of land, building diamonds, and constructing facilities. In 1999, Diamond #1 at Quarry Park was named after him because of his dedication. For over a decade, Fines was also the Quarry Park announcer. He coached many mosquito, beaver, bantam, midget, and high school teams from 1985 to 2000, and in 1993 he coached a bantam A team to the provincial championship, and competed at the Western Canadian championships in Prince Albert with the same team. Fines was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Association Honour Society in 1999.
