Gerry Falk

Gerry Falk was born in Snowflake, Manitoba on April 17, 1954. Falk was an outstanding left handed pitcher, coach, and batter. He won four Manitoba Junior League (MJBL) titles with the Carman Goldeyes between 1971 and ’74, and he was named MJBL all star four times. In 1973, Falk was named top pitcher at the nationals, and he pitched the opening game for Mayville State College in ’72. Falk’s overall pitching record was 27-8 with three district championships under his belt. He pitched for Team Canada in 1977-78 against Korea, Japan, and Nicaragua. During Falk’s senior ball career, he played the Dauphin Redbirds (1975), the Binscarth Orioles (1976-79), the Teulon Cards (1980-81), the Carman Goldeyes (1982-92), Portage Athletics (1993), the Brandon Cloverleafs (1995), and the Birtle Blue Jays (1998). Falk also played in National and Western Canada senior championships for 15 consecutive years, from 1973-1988. Falk was the Manitoba Youth Coach from 1989-90 and 1996-97, the Carman Goldeyes seniors playing head coach 1985-93, and head coach for the Carman Goldeyes juniors from 1997-99, during which years the team won three consecutive championships. Falk was one of two founders of the Manitoba high school baseball league, and he was on the Major League Scouting Bureau (Manitoba region) between 1991 and 2004. Falk was also a very successful high school coach at Gretna Mennonite College Institute and Carman in soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey, badminton, and track and field. He briefly moved to Cochrane in 2004 to teach and coach in Calgary, Alberta, but then returned to teach at Winkler’s Garden Valley Collegiate
