Eleanor Callow

Eleanor Callow was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 8, 1927. Her playing career began in Winnipeg, where she was a standout player in the Winnipeg Girls’ Professional Fastball League from 1943 to 1946. Following this, she was recruited by the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL), and she had a career that lasted from 1947 until 1954, when the league folded. In the AAGPBL, she played for the Peoria Redwings in 1947, the Chicago Colleens in 1948, and the Rockford Peaches from 1948-54. With the Rockford Peaches, she was integral to the success of the team, and was a major contributor to the team’s three consecutive championships from 1948-50. She was an all-star in seven out of her eight seasons in the AAGPBL, and when the league folded she was the all-time leader in home runs and triples. After 1954, Callow moved to Saskatchewan, where she continued to be active in softball, hockey, golf, and bowling.
