Andy Newton was born in Dauphin, Manitoba on October 16, 1913. Newton was the manager of the Dauphin Redbirds for 35 years, and oversaw them in the Northern League, the Manitoba-Saskatchewan League, and the Manitoba Senior Baseball League (MSBL). He was also inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Association Honour Society in 1983, and was a life member of the Manitoba Senior Baseball League. Newton was involved in many more clubs than just baseball, however, including the Dauphin Curling Club, Dauphin 5 Pin Bowling, Rotary International, and the Manitoba Association of Municipalities. He was a great community man, spending 19 years on town council, and 15 as mayor. Newton was known to Dauphin as “Mr. Baseball”.
