Stanley Was born in 1909 on the family farm west of Warren, one of a family of fourteen.  Along with his brothers and sisters they were always interested in sports, particularly in baseball.  Stan joined a senior team at the age of fourteen, where he pitched his first game.  From that time on he played on men’s teams throughout Manitoba.  Many opportunities opened up for him.  He was invited to pitch pro ball in the west, also train for athletics in the United States for the Olympics, but he chose to stay on the farm with his widowed mother.  Played in a league that was formed in 1922 with eight teams competing for the Trophy Cup.  In 30 years Warren won the cup 13 times, 1928 – 1933, 1940 – 9141, 1946 – 1950.    Many stories of Winnipeg teams coming out to play Warren for an easy win and going back to Winnipeg defeated and without a hit.  Most of Stan’s play was in the Interlake region in the late 20’s , 30’s and 40’s.  He had very good fastball, also exceptional drop ball and very good control.  Stan was hired by Ashern to pitch and play 3rd base in 1929.  Hired by the Freeman’s at Siglunes to work in lumber mill and play ball.  Siglunes’s won the Kirvan Cup in 1930.  Stan also excelled in bunting, hitting and running.
