Stan Nichol was one of a family of fourteen born on a farm west of Warren, Manitoba. He started to pitch for a senior team at fourteen years old, and performed in the last 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s ,for the most part in the Interlake region but did go to tournaments in Plumas and Gladstone. Nichol had a good fastball, an exceptional drop ball and very good control. he was a good hitter, a fine bunter, and a very fast runner. Stan was “a cut above the rest” and had opportunities to turn pro and train for the Olympics but chose to stay with his widowed mother on the farm.
