Reg Chopp was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 4, 1933. He was a power hitting outfielder with good speed and an accurate throwing arm. Chopp played 13 years of high caliber ball, beginning in 1950 with Rosedale juveniles, then Elmwood juveniles, Elmwood juniors, Winnipeg Maroon juniors, and Elmwood Giants juniors. He then played with the Moose Jaw Mallards of the Saskatchewan semi-pro league, the Canadian Ukrainian Athletics Club Blues of the Winnipeg Senior League, and the Fort Whyte tournament team. In 1954, in Moosejaw, Chopp was the only Canadian named to the all star team. Chopp also excelled in fastball, basketball, and ten pin bowling.
