Armando Vasquez was born in Havana, Cuba on August 20, 1922. Vasquez was primarily a pitcher, but he could also play the field and bat. Vasquez played in the US Negro League with Cincinnati, Indianapolis, New York, Cuba, Mexico, and Panama. He came to Brandon in 1948 and had five great seasons with the Brandon Greys. In 1949 Armando was 12-1. He helped Brandon win the Manitoba Senior League Championships in 1948 and ’49, as well as the Mandak League Championships in 1951. Vasquez was an entertaining performer who made an impact offensively and defensively. He was recognized for his baseball contributions by former United States president Bill Clinton.
