Tony Tascona

Tony Tascona was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 16, 1926. Tascona played as an underage player at juvenile and midget levels, and then played junior baseball with the Elmwood Giants and the St. Boniface Native Sons. He was with the Brandon Greys in 1948 when they won the Manitoba Senior Baseball League title, and then he spent the next two seasons with the Winnipeg Reos. Tascona was a good fielder, hitter and an excellent bunter. He was also a strong hockey player, but left sports as a young man to pursue a career in art, and he ended up receiving many awards for his artistic endeavors. Tascona became a member of the Order of Canada in 1996.
