Stan Shaley was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 23, 1910. Shaley was an outstanding shortstop and a tremendous hitter. He played in Regina, Kirkland Lake, and Winnipeg. He was captain and coach of the CUAC (Canadian Ukrainian Athletics Center) Blues, who won Manitoba baseball crowns in 1941, ’42, ’43, and ’44. Shaley consistently hit over .300, and he was a great leader. He also helped his brother John coach softball for many years.
