Stan Furman was born in Strathclair, Manitoba on December 22, 1946. Furman played for the Strathclair Buffaloes, the Angusville Cardinals, the Brandon Cloverleafs, the Souris Cardinals and the Birtle Blue Jays. Furman was a power hitter and pitcher, who won two Manitoba Senior Baseball League (MSBL) Batting Crowns. Once was in 1976 with a .470 average, and the second time was in 1980 where he hit at .447. He first started to make a name for himself in 1964, when the Souris Cardinals were short on quality pitchers. Upon recommendations from the locals of Elphinstone, a 17-year-old Furman was picked up to play for the senior Souris team. He pitched a great game, and was later signed by the senior Brandon Cloverleafs. One time, in Fredericton, Furman hit at .500 with three home runs. At the Canadian championship that year, Furman was named an all-star third baseman. This was not, however, abnormal for him. Furman was a perennial all-star, and was named nine times to the MSBL first all-star team and twice to the second all-star team. His average batting record throughout 17 seasons in the MSBL was .332 and he was selected as a utility player for the MSBL 40th Anniversary All-Star Team.
