Neil Andrews was born in Brandon, Manitoba on May 28, 1948. He was a tireless volunteer in the baseball community who had a great sense of humor. Andrews’ involvement in baseball began as a volunteer in 1983. Andrews was the founder of both the Westman Super League of Curling and the Brandon Ora Dental Marlins Senior Baseball team. Neil started the Ora Dental Marlins Senior Baseball team in 1995 and continued to manage the team afterwards. Andrews guided the Marlins to four Manitoba Senior Baseball League titles. Andrews also coached minor and senior baseball in Brandon. As a coach, he not only taught the players to respect the game, but also themselves. Although he was demanding, his players could tell it was because he truly wanted the best for them. Andrews was a fiery competitor and never had any trouble speaking his mind. He was the director of the Westbran Stadium Group since its inception. Westbran Stadium in Brandon was renamed Andrews Field after Neil because of his involvement at the Stadium and in sports in Manitoba. Andrews was involved not only in the Manitoba Senior Baseball League, but Minor Baseball and baseball throughout the entire province as well.
