Mort Wright

Mort Wright was born in Ninette, Manitoba on September 8, 1935. Wright played minor ball in Brandon. He attended the Washington Senators’ training camp in Florida in 1953, but he returned to Manitoba to play with the Brandon Athletics, the Greys, and the Cloverleafs. He pitched three no-hitters and played a prominent role on the Cloverleafs during their three consecutive Central Manitoba Baseball Association (CMBA) titles between 1955 and 1957. Wright later became the playing manager of the Cloverleafs’ teams of 1958-60, who won three more CMBA titles. After the Manitoba Senior Baseball League (MSBL) was formed, Wright managed the Cloverleafs to three straight league titles and two straight provincial titles from 1967-69. He later held administrative positions at Virden and Riverside. Wright retired in 1992, after 41 seasons of playing, coaching, and managing teams that won a collective six CMBA titles, five MSBL crowns, and two Provincial Championships.
