Morgan de Pena

Morgan de Pena was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 22nd, 1957. He was considered one of the most dominant power pitchers of his era. De Pena played in the Manitoba Junior League with Winnipeg South, Transcona, and St. Boniface. He played in the Redboine Senior League with Elmwood, St. Boniface, and Teulon. In 1982, de Pena was a perennial league all-star and Redboine MVP. He began coaching when he was a player with Elmwood in 1984. De Pena went on to coach at all levels for the next 25 years. In 1990, he was named Redboine Coach of the Year when he led the Teulon Cardinals to a Western Canadian Championship. In 2000, he was named the Manitoba High Performance Coach of the Year. He also obtained a level three certification as an umpire. De Pena was the Technical Director of Baseball Manitoba from 1994 to 2000, and Executive Director for over a decade after that. In 2005, he won the Sport Manitoba Sport Administrator of the Year award.
