Les Edwards was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 4, 1917. Edwards was perhaps one of the best players to come out of Winnipeg. He was an outstanding pitcher, good outfielder, and strong power hitter for the Norwood Juveniles, Strathcona Juniors, St. Boniface Seniors, and Norwood Seniors. He also played for the McIntyre Miners (Ontario), the Halifax Defense (Royal Canadian Air Force), Memphis Chicks (class AA), the Gadsden Pilots (class B), the Henderson Oilers (class C), the Greenville Bucks (class C), the Muskegon Clippers (Class A), St. Hyacinthe, Edmonton, and Penticton, where he was known fondly as “Mr. Baseball”. Edwards was the president of the Manitoba Senior Baseball League from 1965-66.
