Len Gzebb

Len Gzebb was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on October 11, 1929. Gzebb was an outstanding junior player for the Elmwood Giants from 1946-50. In 1950 Gzebb was captain of the Elmwood Giants and was on the Tribune All-Star team for a third consecutive year. Gzebb turned to coaching in 1951 and led Elmwood to the Juvenile Championship. In 1952 Gzebb moved to coach the Juniors and was named an all-star coach from that year until ’55. He also served as an executive of the Junior League and he organized the CKRC Redeyes radio station charity team that raised thousands of dollars for charity. Throughout the 70s, Gzebb coached an organized baseball at the Melrose Community Centre. He was also the main force and organizer behind the 100 year baseball reunion in 1974, which attracted over 1000 attendees. A few years later, he was on the committee that reorganized the Elmwood Giants Baseball Club. In the 1980s, Gzebb served on the advisory board for the Giants and helped organize Elmwood’s 75 year reunion in 1983.
