Ellis Woods

Ellis Woods was born in Hamiota, Manitoba on January 19, 1947. Woods played in the Manitoba Senior Baseball League for 22 years with the Hamiota Red Sox. His career batting average was .272, and he was named to the all-star team six times in five different positions (2nd, catcher, 3rd, outfield, and utility). Woods won the Manitoba title in 1964 and 1979, and he won provincial crowns with Hamiota in 1957, ’60, and ’66. He also played with team Manitoba in the Western Canada Championships in North Battleford in 1974. Following his playing career, Woods went on to assist with IT at the Midget Nationals in Stonewall, and also at the 1999 Pan-Am Games. Woods also coached the Shal Lake high school basketball tour of Finland and Sweden in 1980s, and he served as the Winnipeg High School Hockey League scheduler, statistician, and commissioner.
