Team Manitoba – 2010 Junior Pepsi National Champions
INDUCTED 2022
This team won the 2010 Junior National Championship event held in Trois Rivieres, Quebec. It had been 28 years since a Manitoba team had done this. The team was composed of players from teams in the Manitoba Junior Baseball League. The Manitobans did not have power hitters, so they had to rely on “small ball” to win. They stole bases, bunted, used hit-and-run plays, were good on defense, and pitched well. The key game was a 7-1 win over the highly rated Ontario team in the semi-finals. This was one of two games won by pitcher and tournament MVP Anthony Friesen, who also had one save. The finals was against the host team, Trois Rivieres, who in their semi-final had unexpectedly beaten Quebec, another top-ranked team. Manitoba used a big four-run fifth inning to win the game 6-3 and make history.
