Robert Hunter was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 27, 1944. Hunter played with many teams over his career, including Strathclair, the Orioles Community Club (1955), the Transcona Atomics, the Transcona Blues, the Ste. Agathe Bisons, and Team Canada (1967). While playing with the Orioles, Hunter was the MVP for seven consecutive years, and once pitched two no-hitters in a row. His Orioles were dominate in their league for nearly a decade, and in one seven year stretch they won five out of seven provincial senior crowns. Hunter also played with Team Manitoba in two Canada Summer Games. The highlight of his career was a game with Team Canada as a relief pitcher, where he and his team beat Cuba 10-9, handing them their first loss in 12 years. This was at the 1967 Pan-Am Games. Hunter later coached the Lord Roberts Community Club, who were city champions, and also the Crescentwood Community Club.
