Paul Chartrand

Paul Chartrand was born in St. Laurent, Manitoba on July 27, 1943. Chartrand was a right handed pitcher who played for fifteen teams over the course of 30 years in Canada and Australia. In 1969 he played on Team Manitoba in the first Canada Summer Games in Halifax, and did so again in 1972 when the Canadian championships were in Brandon. Other teams Chartrand played for were the St. Laurent Alouettes, Warren, Blamoral, Transcona Atomic, St. Lazare Athletics, Ste. Agathe Bisons, and the McAuly Blazers. He also played in the Brisbane Major Baseball League on the Queensland State Team and on the Australian National Team from 1974-82. On October 21, 1979, Chartrand pitched a no-hitter against the Ipswich Musketeers. In 1983, he played for the Saskatoon Patrick Liners, who won bronze at the Canadian championships in Sudbury. From 1984-91 Chartrand also played for the Teulon Cardinals and the Elmwood Giants in the Redboine Senior League, where he once stuck out sixteen batters in a five inning tournament game. After his baseball career was over, Chartrand became a law professor at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.
