Johnny Parobec was born in Angusville, Manitoba on July 12, 1927. Parobec started playing baseball at the age of 15, and he continued for over 45 years. From 1943-63, he played center field for the Angusville Cardinals. He was an important part of the team for these years, and his strong arm and good speed were noticeable. Following this, he coached the Angusville-Foxwarren juveniles to the provincial title in 1964, just one year after his playing career ended. He went on to coach the Angusville Cards, who won the Northwest League title seven years in a row. Parobec then coached Angusville from 1975-81 in the Manitoba Senior Baseball League (MSBL). During this stint, he saw a strong pool of local and American talent. At the same time, Parobec coached Team Manitoba in Nationals and Westerns in 1977. Following his time with Angusville, he coached the Souris Cards in the MSBL from 1982-85, and won the league title in 1985. In Angusville, Parobec’s #44 uniform has been retired. He is considered Angusville’s Mr. Baseball.
