Joe Baron was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 30, 1930. He was a right-handed pitcher who utilized a versatile array of pitches to earn his place among Manitoba’s best. Baron led his Riverdale team to four championships between 1946 and 1950, and he was named to the Junior League all star team in 1950 and 1951. He pitched for St. Boniface Native Sons until 1955, and was on three city championship clubs. Baron went on to coach community club baseball and hockey, as he was a prominent player in not only baseball, but hockey and basketball as well. Baron also served as Chairman of the Board of Winnipeg Harvest.
