Jim Slevin

Jim Slevin was born in Rivers, Manitoba on August 30, 1932. He is regarded as the father of the Brandon Cloverleafs, who began play in 1946 and were the first team inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame. From 1951-58, he was the manager, recruiter, accountant, and representative of the Cloverleafs. On top of all this, he was also a player on the team. He was a great catcher, a solid hitter (.300 average), a good base runner, and an outstanding leader. He went on to help the Carman Cubs win the Winnipeg Senior title in 1963. Slevin was also a top fastball player with the ANAF (Army Navy Airforce) Vets and the Winnipeg Kiewels. He was an excellent basketball and hockey player as well, and he was Western Manitoba Athlete of the Year in 1954. Later in life, Slevin played slow pitch with the Manitoba ReMax 65+, who participated in the World Championships for their age bracket in 1998.
