Gene Cory

Gene Cory was born in Wawanesa, Manitoba on September 21, 1936. He was a very good shortstop and a strong hitter. Cory started his baseball career in his hometown of Wawanesa when he joined the Riverside Canucks in 1955, and played with them until 1973. In ’71, Cory was batting champion in the Manitoba Senior Baseball League (MSBL) with a .368 average, his team was MSBL champions in ’73, Cory was a first all-star in 1971, and a second all-star in ’61, ’64, and ’65. Cory was a member of the first Team Canada in the 1967 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Carman, and Portage. He went on to coach minor baseball for several years.
