Ed Leier

Ed Leier was born in Surrey, British Columbia, on November 3, 1927. Leier was a great infielder and outfielder, a high-average hitter, and a speedy baserunner. He started his career in 1943 with the Morse Place junior team and went on to excel for nine years in junior and senior leagues. Leier joined the Elmwood Giants and the Canadian Ukrainian Athletics Blues during this time, and he was named to the the junior league all-star team in 1946 and ’47. In 1950 he played in the Mandak league, and was also an all-star there. Leier was a well-known and all-round athlete, a professional hockey player from 1949-56, and a provincial champion in 100 and 200 yard dashes.
