Dale Lowes was born in McAuley, Manitoba on December 10, 1947. Lowes was a McAuley Blazers catcher with a great arm. He once threw out 17 straight base runners in the Manitoba Senior Baseball League (MSBL), and another time hit back to back grand slams in Elphinstone on July 1st against Cypress River, leading his team to an 8-0 victory. McAuley were MSBL champions in 1965, ’75, and ’87, and they were provincial champions in 1975 and 1987. Lowes was an MSBL first all-star 12 times, and a second all-star once. He won bronze medals with his Manitoba team in 1976 and ’85. Lowes had good speed, was a power hitter, team leader, and one of the top catchers in MSBL history. Lowes had a .319 batting average in his 17 year MSBL career.
