Bob Thomson was born in Miami, Manitoba on December 8, 1926. Thomson was a very good pitcher and infielder for 20 years, from the late 1940s to the late 1960s. He led Miami to many victories in the South Central Baseball League, and he would sometimes be picked up by other teams to bolster their rosters for tournaments. In 1949, Thomson pitched and batted at Polar Point to a first place finish at Morden’s popular Dominion Day Tournament. Thomson was also a very good hockey player, and he always exhibited skill and sportsmanship. Many have described him as an athlete, a gentleman, and role model.
