Alex Turk

Alex Turk was born in Northern Ireland. Turk was a member of the 1924 juvenile Elmwood Giants team, who won the Provincial Juvenile Championship. Following this, he was catcher and captain of the junior Elmwood Giants, who were also provincial champions in 1925 and ’27. During the 1927 season, his team went undefeated until Westerns. Turk was later catcher for the Elks from 1928-34, during which years they won the provincial title in 1928 and 1929. From 1934-39, he was player/manager of the Norwood team in the Greater Winnipeg Senior League. After WWII, Turk played a major role in the reforming of the Giants’ organization. He served as president for a number of years, and was also instrumental in getting the Giants’ senior team into the Winnipeg Senior League in 1947, The Manitoba Senior Baseball League in 1949, and the Mandak League in 1950.
