Gordon Hunter was born in Nesbitt, Manitoba on April 5, 1932. Hunter was a left-handed pitcher who also played first base and hit well. He started his 28-year senior career career at 15 years old, playing with Wawanesa. In 1962 he hit at .419, which was second-best in the Manitoba Senior Baseball League (MSBL). Later in life, Hunter became the field manager of the Riverside Canucks, who he spent a large part of his playing career with. He led this team from 1968-71, during which time they were MSBL champions in 1968 and Pennant winners in 1969. They were also the second all-star team in 1971.
