Del was born and raised in Alberta. Del was an RCMP officer who made his Manitoba baseball reputation while pitching for Shoal Lake in the 1950s. Later he played in Carberry, Wellwood, Erickson and he also threw occasionally for other teams who sought his services for tournaments. He was a left-hander with an awesome fastball, a wicked slider, and excellent control. His teammates appreciated his good humour win or lose.
