Barry Wowk was born in Angusville, Manitoba on August 8, 1947. Wowk played with the Angusville Cardinals from 1974-83, the Souris Cardinals in 1984 and ’86, and the Brandon Cloverleafs from 1987-91. He later served as coach/manager of mulitple Team Manitoba teams, including at the Western Canada Championships in Brandon in 1991, the championships in Kamloops in 1992, and at Red Deer in 1994. Wowk served as president of the Manitoba Senior Baseball League (MSBL) for well over a decade, and he was inducted into the MSBL Honour Society in 1999. Three years later, he was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Association Honour Society. Wowk was the manager of the Simplot Millennium Baseball Park in 200-01, and he continued to be an active baseball catcher for various Canadian and American teams in competitions, including in Arizona, Florida, and Puerto Rico.
