For much much of the late 1940s and early 1950s, McConnell was a perennial championship contender in the Mid-West League and a great tournament team. They averaged about 65 games a season, and usually only had about ten losses. McConnell was blessed with some of the best pitchers in the area, including Murray Richardson, Ross Pollock, Harold Pollock, Ray Asselstine, Gladwyn Scott and Glennis Scott. One of the biggest tournaments they attended was at Indian Head, where the top prize was $1000.
