Reg Chopp was a power hitting outfielder with good speed on the bases and an accurate throwing arm. He played thirteen years of high- calibre ball, beginning in 1950 with Rosedale juveniles, moving to Elmwood juveniles, Elmwood juniors, Winnipeg Maroon juniors, Elmwood Giants juniors, Moose Jaw Mallards of the Saskatchewan semi-pro league, CUAC Blues of Winnipeg Senior League, and the Fort Whyte tournament team. In 1954, in Moose Jaw, Reg was the only Canadian named to the all star team, and played a few games for Winnipeg Goldeyes late in the season. Reg also excelled in fastball, basketball, and ten pin bowling.
